Why cropped 30-up screenshots blur
1 / 2Most direct-thermal printers (Rollo, Zebra LP2824, ZD410, ZD421, MUNBYN) have a 203 DPI printhead—meaning each physical heater dot is 0.125 mm wide. When sellers take a screenshot snapshot of an 8.5 × 11 in Seller Central sheet and scale it to fit a 2 × 1 in roll, the browser anti-aliases the black bars into grey pixels.
Thermal printheads cannot print grey; they dither soft edges into jagged steps, shrinking the white spaces between bars and causing warehouse scanners to reject the X00 code.
| Print method | Bar edge sharpness | Page size | FBA scanner result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vector 144 × 72 pt PDF (UPCLabelMaker) | 100% crisp integer dots | 2.00 × 1.00 in (1 per page) | Passes Grade A/B |
| Cropped screenshot from 30-up sheet | Blurry / dithered edges | Scaled bitmap | Frequent scan failure |
| 4 × 6 shipping label shrunk to 2 × 1 | Illegible micro-bars | Wrong aspect ratio | Rejected at inbound |
Rollo & Zebra driver settings
2 / 2Once you generate a 1-up roll PDF in our 2 × 1 in Thermal Label Maker (where entering Quantity 50 produces a 50-page PDF with 1 label per page), configure your print dialog with three settings:
- Paper Size: Select 2.00 × 1.00 in (50.8 × 25.4 mm). Do not leave the driver on 4 × 6 in.
- Scale: Set to 100% / Actual Size (never 'Fit to Printable Area').
- Darkness / Density & Speed: Set print speed to 3–4 ips (inches per second) and darkness/density to 10–12 (out of 15) on Zebra or High Sharpness / Dither None on Rollo.
Questions
Why does entering 50 labels create a 50-page PDF on thermal roll stock?
On a continuous thermal roll, each physical sticker is one page advance (1-up). A 50-page PDF at 2 × 1 in feeds 50 consecutive stickers seamlessly through your Rollo or Zebra printer.
Can I print 4 × 6 in master carton barcodes on the same thermal printer?
Yes. Switch the paper stock dropdown to '4 × 6 in — Master shipping carton' to generate 2.4× scaled carton labels with a 38 mm tall barcode.
