Avery 8160 template FAQ
Is an Avery 8160 the same size as an Avery 5160?
Yes — both are 1 × 2⅝ in labels, 3 across and 10 down, on 8.5 × 11 in US Letter. The only difference is the coating: 8160 is made for inkjet ink, 5160 for laser toner. The template on this page prints correctly on either sheet, because the geometry is identical.
Why does the last row drift onto the cut line?
Almost always print scaling. In the print dialog set Paper to US Letter, and set Scale to 100% or Actual Size rather than Fit to Page — fitting shrinks the page by 3–4% and the error grows toward the bottom, which is why the last rows go wrong while row 1 still looks fine. The alignment test on this page exists to show you that in one sheet instead of thirty.
Can I type my own text into the Word file instead of using the barcode maker?
Yes. The Word file is a plain table — one cell per label — so you can type addresses, product names or anything else. It does not compute barcodes; for those, use the maker below, which validates the check digit and prints the symbol at true size onto the same grid.
What is on the alignment test page?
Crosshairs on all four corners of every label and a 100 mm scale bar. Print it on plain paper at 100%, lay your Avery sheet on top against a window, and the crosses tell you whether the printer is offset; the bar tells you whether it scaled. Those are the only two things that go wrong, and they are fixed differently.
